The U.S. Army has again failed in its attempt to get permission to use live animals in experiments they intend to conduct at the Grafenwoehr training grounds in eastern Bavaria.

The Upper Palatine government in Regensburg rejected the Army’s request for permission on the grounds that the experiments were not “ethically defensible,” in the words of a government spokesman last Friday.

The U.S. Army intended to inflict serious wounds on anesthetized pigs and other animals at a seminar in order to give medical personnel experience in treating battlefield injuries. A preliminary request for permission had been previously rejected last May. Now, a follow-up attempt to get permission has also been denied.
