The Tone Between Obama and McCain Intensifies

The Democratic candidate accuses his Republican rival of having sold out to the interests of major oil groups. This latest round sees McCain mocking his Democratic opponent as he has done for a few weeks through vicious televised video clips.

The campaign for the U.S. presidential election next November has taken a nauseating turn. The two candidates, Barack Obama for the Democrats, John McCain for the Republicans, have reached the stage that has led to name-calling, ridicule, and systematic disparagement.

Obama unveiled his energy plan on Monday–including tapping into the strategic reserves although he has not been in favor of this up until now–a concern close to the hearts of Americans, given the soaring prices of oil and gasoline at the pump (a gallon of gas has gone up a dollar in one year to $3.88 dollars), and took this opportunity to accuse John McCain of taking orders from the big oil companies.

In his clip, one hears the phrases: “Every time you fill up your tank, oil companies are filling their pockets. Large oil companies have so far given $2 million dollars to John McCain’s campaign.” “Instead of taxing the profits of oil companies to help motorists, McCain wants to give them $4 billion in tax rebates.” “After having a president subservient to the oil companies, we cannot afford to have a second one.” And the clip shows a photo of George W. Bush and John McCain standing side by side.

The aggressiveness of the Democratic camp is partly due to its annoyance in the face of the latest Republican clips which have turned to ridicule Barack Obama, and have likened his media friendliness to that of shallow Paris Hilton. Since their airing, the Democratic candidate’s lead on his Republican rival has dissolved by numerous points and has almost disappeared.

The McCain camp has responded to the accusations made by their rival, maintaining that Barack Obama also received $400,000 dollars in donations from oil companies while denouncing his about-face regarding the issue of strategic reserves.

The Republican Party has continued in its caustic zeal by offering the Democratic candidate, who celebrated his 47th birthday on Monday, a gauge for measuring tire pressure. The Democratic candidate has recently advised American motorists to check their tire pressure in efforts to save on gas.

Barack Obama’s outraged supporters have been reminded of the appeals made by the Bush administration’s Department (Ministry) of Energy along with the the Republican governors of California and Florida to regularly check their tire pressure.
