Late in 2009, al-Qaeda once again showed its nails and spread panic in the free world, forcing governments to multiply their investments in airport security. But what if the terrorist on the flight from Amsterdam was just a strategy of distraction so that everyone would be focused on airports, while the actual terrorist attack is to be directed by other objectives? Or what if all this is a strategic, ad hoc fabrication of the war industry? Go figure!

The only certainty is that the explosives in the terrorist's underwear will be sufficient “testicular basis” to strengthen actions. As expressed by Obama in his speech receiving the untimely Nobel Peace Prize, “sometimes war is justified to maintain the peace” (a theory that seems to me that of unfaithful husbands when they say their love affairs help to preserve the marriage).

Hopefully Chavez, unrepentant and impulsive, does not end up being manipulated by American interests. In Washington they talk of a “cold war” when referring to the matter of Chavez and Colombia. Those who want to recover, even if by force, political and economic influence in this region, see the D.C. geopolitical view as their last bastion. Chavez is buying weapons from Russia and Tuscan aircrafts from Ecuador.

It would be difficult for the United States to openly go to war with Venezuela, but a strategy to support border riots and invest in weapons might work. Give support to Uribe for a conflict with Chavez (there are two million Colombian refugees in Venezuela); I doubt it would be a move that could be sustained because the cost to America's image would be too high.

But something is going to happen because the provocation of Chavez, including the threat to close down Toyota, is irritating and power has limited tolerance. If not by outside forces, the internal disturbance will cause it because more than half of the Venezuelan population (the higher economic groups included) cannot stand the bile chatter of its president, who shows a need for psychiatric evaluation.

A finales de 2009, Al Qaeda saca nuevamente las uñas y hace que cunda el pánico en el mundo libre, obligando a sus gobiernos a multiplicar inversiones en seguridad aeroportuaria. Pero, ¿qué si lo del terrorista en el vuelo de Amsterdam es una estrategia de distracción, para que todo se enfoque hacia los aeropuertos, mientras la verdadera embestida terrorista se dirige hacia otros objetivos? ¿Y qué si todo esto es una fabricación estratégica ad hoc, por parte de la industria de la guerra? ¡Vaya usted a saber!
Lo único seguro es que esos explosivos en calzoncillos, serán suficiente “base testicular” para reforzar con acciones lo expresado por Obama en su discurso, al recibir el extemporáneo Premio Nóbel de la Paz: “A veces la guerra está justificada para mantener la paz” (teoría que se me parece mucho a la de los maridos infieles, cuando dicen que sus aventuras amorosas ayudan a preservar el matrimonio).
Por otra parte, ojala que Chávez, impulsivo impenitente, no termine siendo manipulado por los intereses norteamericanos que, en Washington, hablan de “guerra fría” cuando se refieren a los asuntos del bloque Chávez y Colombia. Intereses que quieren recuperar, no importa sea por la fuerza, la influencia política y económica de esa región, que en el D.C. consideran su último bastión geopolítico. Chávez está comprando armas a Rusia, y Ecuador aviones Tucanos.
Sería difícil que E.U. se lance abiertamente a guerrear con Venezuela, pero una estrategia de apoyar revueltas fronterizas y así hacerle invertir en armamentos, podría funcionar. Darle apoyo a Uribe para un conflicto con Chávez (hay dos millones de refugiados colombianos en Venezuela), sería una jugada que dudo puedan sustentar, porque el costo en imagen sería muy alto para E.U.
Pero algo va a ocurrir, porque la provocación de Chávez -ya amenazó hasta con cerrar la Toyota-, es irritante y el poder tiene sus límites de tolerancia. Si no es desde afuera, se provocará la revuelta intestina, porque más de la mitad del pueblo venezolano (donde se incluye a las clases con poder económico), no soporta más los revoloteos biliares de su presidente que, cuantas veces discursea, demuestra necesidad de evaluación siquiátrica.
