Blockade of Cuba is “Genocide Against the Nation”

A dialogue between members of the Civic Democratic Center and the Cuban ambassador, Pedro Pablo Prada, has revealed that the economic blockade imposed by the U.S. since 1960 affects Cubans all around the world.

The diplomat has explained that on “economic matters” the island has survived through “audacity, hope in the certainty of the chosen path and confidence in the capacity of our nation.”

Prada states that during the period of blockade, the U.S. State Department is besieging to such a point that they have assigned more staff to “pursue trade operations with Cuba” than to watch terrorists worldwide.

“For every person assigned to assist and monitor terrorist operations, there are five assigned for Cuba. In such a situation, Cubans are victims the same way every company having economic ties with us is,” explained the diplomat.

Prada has described this policy of the U.S. democratic government as one of the “biggest aberrations as a legitimate form of genocide against a nation,” since declassified documents held by the U.S. indicate that it is all a part of the strategy to “raise Cubans against their government” and achieve destabilization.

The diplomat said that in the 21st century the United States is sanctioning every company trading with the island, without taking into consideration that some of the items traded are of vital necessity.

“They are trying to prevent us from purchasing food, medical tools and pursuing business, through a broad variety of actions — revealing plain and clear that they haven’t declared an embargo, but a war, a social war, a permanent persecution of social economic activity,” said the diplomat.

Based on this the ambassador does not consider it a coincidence that, year by year, countries at U.N. summits are condemning the blockade. He stated that “this is the reality affecting us, the reason why 187 countries voted in favor of lifting the embargo; the United States, Israel and Palau voted against lifting it and two islands abstained from voting.”

“When the day comes in which a Salvadorian company can’t trade with Cuba, don’t hesitate to report it, because it is an illegitimate act and it violates the U.S. Constitution itself,” concluded the Cuban official.
