Hate Propaganda

There is little room for doubt here: The assertions made by ex-U.S. Marine Corps General John Sheehan concerning the causes of the Srebrenica massacre are reckless and shameful. His comments not only insult American homosexuals, they also insult homosexuals all over the world. He’s also not above misusing the cruel slaughter of 8,000 Muslim men and boys to take cheap propaganda shots.

His comments are understandable only in the context of the United States itself where the subject of homosexuality is strictly taboo. President Obama wants to lift the ban on gays serving openly in the armed forces. Sheehan plays a role in the political cultural wars between America’s liberals and conservatives — a war that’s also apparent in the battle over health care reform in which Obama plays the role of the modernizer.

This isn’t about the difference between right and wrong, it’s about the difference between good and evil. There’s a great deal of intolerance in the mix. The gross exaggerations mouthed by General Sheehan have been absent in Germany for a long time now. And that’s a good reason for us to be pleased.
