America’s Idea of Elastic Democracy in Iraq

The idea of de-Baathification was the brainchild of Paul Bremer, the infamous former head of the Coalition Authority in Iraq, encouraged by some Iraqi politicians. It was an idea that backfired and was a curse on the Iraqi people because the result was just the opposite. In fact, unarmed Iraqi civilians were the ones targeted by the massive eradication operations organized by former Baathists and their “al-Qaida” allies, through continued terrorism and terrifying retaliatory operations. Not one day passed by without a number of peaceful, innocent citizens being victimized by the vengeful acts of Baathist activists.

There are no secrets about the role Bremer played in devastating Iraq through his interventions regarding the mechanism for creating Iraq’s Constitution, particularly with regard to the item on the prohibition of the Baath Party, considering it dissolved and sweeping it into the dustbin of history.

And now, U.S. officials during Obama’s era are still harshly intervening, frequently and repeatedly, as they did in the past, to tailor “democracy” pants for the Iraqis, which they accurately call the democracy of “creative chaos” or destruction. They want to turn those baggy democratic pants into an elastic democracy they can stretch in all directions depending on their policy at the time, rather than on the terms of the current Iraqi constitution.

At the time, they blessed the idea of the de-Baathification law. Today, they raise their voices in objection to certain procedures of this law. The same thing can be said about the constitutional clause on the prohibition of the Baath Party and, considering it dissolved, the U.S. State Department spokesman Philip Crowley emphasizes that Baathists must be a part of the political process in Iraq and participate in the elections.

Thus, quite simply, in the eyes of the U.S. administration, overnight, the Iraqi constitution became an old rag to wipe the blood off of the Baathist thugs’ boots.

Ok. Then why did you agree on the de-Baathification law and the banning of the Baath Party? You, who continue to control the fate of the people and the country, and made them laughing material before the eyes of the world with your creative chaos?!

This is what the United States put in the elastic “democracy” pants for the Iraqis’ collective behind in order to make it fit for a Baathist kick at any time!
