America’s Fight With Pakistan

America has been pressuring Pakistan recently. Despite all their talk, it seems that Pakistani leaders are not ready to face these pressures and threats. I don’t think that it is very useful for these countries to engage in polemics and finger-pointing. Both countries are mindful of their problems amidst these difficult times. More than any other country, America should know that aggressive confrontations rarely accomplish anything useful.

The public had a lot of hope for yesterday’s conference between the leaders of Pakistan’s various political parties. There were a lot of expectations. We were hoping that these people would be bold and issue a plan on how to tackle America’s threats. We were hoping that they would tell us how to resolve our domestic and international problems. We wanted concrete answers; we did not get them. Our army always confronts America boldly when they attack it. These leaders should have learned from the army, but this conference shows that our leaders are weak and unfocused.

The Americans will not attack our soil and they will not carry out any investigations against us. Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mike Mullen has said that Pakistan’s positive actions cannot be forgotten. Our leaders should not forget his words. Although Mullen’s statement was absolutely true, America is still our deadly enemy. America and Pakistan should both know what they are talking about before they engage in finger-pointing and accusations.

Pakistan should speak up and defend itself against America’s accusations and threats. It needs to tell the world that America cannot do to Pakistan what it did to Iraq and Afghanistan. Pakistan also needs to take action to send a message to the world that Pakistan’s sovereignty is very important, and that all the accusations against it are not based in reality. We need to take bold steps and counter all the “myths” about Pakistan. Now let’s see how the government and the army proceed and get us out of this mess. My advice to America is that it should stop threatening us (it only creates new problems for both countries when it does so) and, instead, act correctly and try to resolve some of these problems.
