The Secret Service Goes out Partying

Some days before Barack Obama arrived to the Summit of the Americas, held in Cartagena de Indias, 11 members of the Secret Service who had traveled to this Colombian town to ensure the president’s safety, as well as ten US servicemen sent to fulfill support functions, were attended to by an equivalent number of prostitutes in their hotel. This story emerged because one of the prostitutes did not agree with the payment. Dania Londoño Suárez, 24, the mother of a nine year-old child, has explained that she asked one of the bodyguards for $800 and he only gave her $30. There was a fight and the negotiation ended with the $225 that the bouncer managed to gather together. The young lady seemed dissatisfied so she spilled the beans and the night of excesses showed up in the headlines. As prostitution is not persecuted in Cartagena, there was no penalty for the ladies. However, the 11 bodyguards were removed from their position – three of them are definitely out for good – pending a thorough investigation. We will see what happens to the servicemen.

The charge is misbehavior. An elite team who is so close to the president cannot afford to take part in any situation whatsoever that may bring about some kind of blackmail or allow confidential information to be leaked. Some agents from the Secret Service and the Pentagon are now in Cartagena to look for the girls and learn everything they can. At the same time they are prying everywhere — including David Randall Chaney’s Facebook account. This 48-year-old man with an impeccable career is one of the two supervisors of the mission. He is an example of dedication and efficiency. Mark Sullivan, the director of the Secret Service, stated that what is happened in Cartagena is an aberrant and isolated case. He also stated that it did not have influence on the mission, which was perfectly executed.

The leap to fame is not going to be fruitful for the women: Everyone in Dania’s neighborhood now knows she is a prostitute. As far as Chaney is concerned, the racy comments he left on a picture in which he appears behind Sarah Palin have earned him an answer from the Republican leader: His wife better send him to the dog house!
