The severely violent terror incident in Maralbexi County, Kashgar Prefecture, Xinjiang that happened on April 23 caused the deaths of 15 grassroots policemen and community cadres. Six insurgents were also shot dead. The event, called “the most serious terror incident in Xinjiang since the 7/5 incident in 2009,” has garnered a lot of international attention. The U.S. Department of State’s spokesperson urged China to “transparently investigate” the terror incident in Maralbexi and to provide “due process and equal protection” for all Chinese citizens, including Uiguhrs, in a press conference on April 24, local time. The Associated Press said that China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Hua Chunying, chided the U.S. in response to its “questioning,” expressing dissatisfaction at the U.S.’ “lack of sympathy.”

Hua Chunying states that the Chinese and the Americans are both victims of terror attacks, so Washington should show more sympathy. Reuters said that the Boston Marathon bombing in the U.S. had just happened 10 days ago, yet the U.S. Department of State merely expressed regret at the deaths of several Chinese people. AFP said that the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson also criticized the U.S. for upholding “double standards” and said that all accusations against Chinese racial policies by the U.S. were ridiculous.

In response to such a horrific terror incident, the U.S. actually showed such an attitude. Not only did the U.S. not show the appropriate pity toward the victims of terrorism, but instead placed the blame on China, purposely turning this terror incident into a racial issue — how truly devious.

Both cases were terror attacks, yet the U.S. upheld double standards, one for itself and another for other countries. This is virtually the “habitual trick” used by the U.S. to handle domestic and international affairs in recent years. The same goes for human rights. The U.S. never reflects on domestic problems, yet it is always lecturing other countries. What’s more, it brought war and crisis to other countries, causing many countries’ citizens to live in hardship. Terrorism is the global public enemy, but the U.S. only focuses on domestic problems and ignores the disasters happening in other countries, maybe even allowing and supporting such organizations to wreak havoc in other countries.

Secondly, this completely exposes the true colors of American hegemony: ordering other countries about, acting as the global police and openly interfering in the affairs of other nations.

At the same time, based on America’s view on the incident in Xinjiang, the U.S.’ strategic interest in controlling China is very clear. Think back to recent years to the obvious escalation in the security situation around China: North Korea, the Spratly Islands, the Diaoyu Islands and problems like Tibetan independence and Xinjiang independence — which one of these does not have the shadow of the U.S. behind it? The U.S. does not want a strong country to appear in this world and is doing everything it can to stop China’s rise and obstruct the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Let us review General Secretary Xi’s speech on the Boao Forum: “The international community should advocate the vision of comprehensive security, common security and cooperative security so as to turn our global village into a big stage for common development, rather than an arena where gladiators fight each other. And no one should be allowed to throw a region and even the whole world into chaos for selfish gains.”

For selfish gains, some countries, some people have already forgotten the basic principle of the world, forgotten the least bit of humanity and actually ignored terrorism. Regardless of how many reasons there are, this kind of logic is unfathomable. Presumably, this is the greatest threat to world peace!
