In 2014 More Powder Will Wash Away from America’s Face

World public opinion still sees the United States of America as a violent country that supports terrorism and spreads chaos around the world because of its imperialist policies, which are based on realizing the interests of its monopolist corporations. Today, America’s image seems to have fallen to its worst state, which contrasts with the improving image of its adversaries, like China and Russia. What is the core reason for the staying power of such an image, and why has the Obama administration failed to change this image, even though it has indicated on more than one occasion that it rejects the policies of intervention and invasion that the previous administration — that of George W. Bush — employed?

Understanding the answer to this important question doesn’t require much explaining of special terms or deciphering and unraveling of mysteries, for it is as clear as the midday sun. The United States’ historical record is filled with human rights violations all around the world. When it conducts interventions on the pretense of defending these rights, it kills millions of people and displaces just as many, devastating states and peoples in their entirety under the cover of these false pretenses.

If we try delving into United States foreign policy, we find that Iraq is a glaring example of those violations. After Washington misled the world about Iraq’s possession of weapons of mass destruction, it invaded the country, killed and displaced millions of people, destroyed its army and institutions and set it back decades.

The same thing applied to Afghanistan, where the United States’ invasion left behind tens of thousands of dead and displaced and entered the country into the forges of constructive chaos, all in the name of fighting terrorism and quelling al-Qaida, just as drones intervene daily into Pakistan and kill innocent civilians on the pretext of pursuing Taliban units.

When we turn to the Arab region, the situation is even worse. The United States exploited the protests that occurred in several Arab countries, riding the wave of so-called reform and change and wreaking havoc throughout the Arab homeland — from Tunis in the West to Syria in the East, passing through Egypt, Yemen and Sudan, which it insisted on dividing into two countries to realize the interests of its ally Israel and sow discord between the countries of the Nile basin.

When it comes to the Palestinian issue, the United States has, in the era of the Obama administration, moved from a dangerous phase of supporting the Zionist entity and concealing its crimes to a more dangerous phase of guaranteeing Israeli security absolutely, while pressuring the Palestinians to accept the theory of a Jewish Israel, abandon the right of return and accept the effects of the settlement of occupied Arab lands.

The Obama administration refused to bid 2013 farewell without its record of spying on others, especially its European allies, being the highest in the world. No country has ever spied on the heads of states allied with it as the U.S. did this year, not to mention that this country dominates the United Nations apparatuses, especially the Human Rights Council, diverting it far away from its founding mission in service of certain colonial policies.

After all this terrorism, murder, lying and deception of world public opinion, the American administration’s officials go out and talk neglectfully about freedom, justice, peace and dignity from the stages of the United Nations, emphasizing the sovereignty of nations and peoples and their right to life and democracy while ignoring the injustice they practice against peoples and their limitless support for Israel’s racist killing and terrorism.

The other paradox in this area is that the Obama administration hasn’t stopped talking about weapons of mass destruction in this or that country but ignores its own possession of a fearsome arsenal of nuclear weapons, which it refuses to disassemble and destroy, and the Zionist entity’s arsenal, which exceeds 300 nuclear warheads and bombs and with which it threatens the region and the world.

Today, more of the powder that the Obama administration has tried to coat its face with is washing away. The world will continue to see America as a country that destroys peoples and supports terrorism to serve its monopolist interests. All methods of lying and means of deception through politics and media will be futile for changing that image.
