Where Was Obama? No American in Paris.

When the world demonstrated solidarity with France, Washington did not have more to offer than its ambassador. Not a single secretary was among those who walked in the funeral procession. That is embarrassing.

On Thursday, Secretary of State John Kerry will find his way to Paris to reinforce the relationship between the United States and its oldest ally. How nice! While the world showed solidarity with this terror-haunted country and dozens of world leaders marched in the funeral procession in Paris, Washington had nothing more to offer than its ambassador.

That is embarrassing. No wonder that Obama’s political enemies back home bear down on the matter. No president in Paris, no vice president, not a single secretary in the procession — even though Attorney General Eric Holder was staying in Paris at the time. In the end, it wasn’t like the head of the government in Washington was otherwise engaged because something else was on a knife’s edge.

It is worth remembering: Obama went to Copenhagen back in 2009 to lobby for his hometown Chicago to become an Olympic venue. France is a close ally of the United States in security matters. It deserved more sympathy, especially being a victim of terror. Who would know better than America?
