Obama Intimidates Congress with a New 9/11

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security will stop its federal program if Congress doesn’t pass Obama’s immigration amnesty bill. It is as if the president was trying to say: Citizens, prepare for another 9/11 while we are playing politics here. Obama is using lobbying power on the Republicans, but the sheriffs have objected.

Barack Obama and the Republicans Have Brought the Nation to a Shutdown

Obama and the Republicans have brought the nation to another shutdown. The primary responsibility of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is protecting the United States. The department was created in response to the Sept. 11 attacks. It is also tasked with coastal defense. Homeland Security will not receive federal funding beyond the deadline of Feb. 27 if the Republicans do not reach an agreement with the White House.

“And they’re now threatening to let Homeland Security funding expire because of their disagreeing with my actions to make our immigration system smarter, fairer and safer. . . But if they don’t agree with me, that’s fine, that’s how our democracy works. . . But don’t jeopardize our national security over this disagreement,” the president said discussing the budget for the next fiscal year at the Department of Homeland Security headquarters.

The truth is, the responsibility is mutual and doesn’t belong to just the Republicans. In short, the situation is as follows. Late last year, the president bypassed Congress and made the decision to grant amnesty to around five million children of illegal immigrants, mostly Latin Americans. The president said these young people “represent the very best that this country has to offer.”

However, in defiance of the president’s decision, the House of Representatives voted for a bill that proposed deportation of these “wonderful young people. ” Currently, that bill is under consideration in the Senate. Let’s keep in mind that Republicans control both chambers. Before the Christmas holidays, the administration and Congress reached a “compromise” which tied the amnesty to the allocation of almost $40 million to DHS before September of this year.

If the situation is not resolved by Feb. 27, Obama will veto congressional legislation and stop financing for security officials who, by the way, are tasked with fighting both Islamist and domestic terrorism. It is for a reason that DHS bought approximately a billion hollow-point bullet cartridges.

The Republicans are persistent, since their reputation is at stake. They believe that Obama, by making decisions that bypass Congress, is abusing his authority as chief executive. As a result, in the time of a “severe terror alert level” in the world (caused by the Islamic State), thousands of security officials could take indefinite leave, and thousands of others, who are considered “important,” will continue to work unpaid.

Security Officials Object to Obama’s Plan

On February 6, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson, in a letter to law enforcement leaders nationwide, announced cuts in federal funding if the Congress refuses to unblock Obama’s immigration law.

The news site WND.com cites Johnson who writes that many security functions would lose funding, such as extra security at schools and colleges, subways, trains and tunnels, surveillance equipment and bomb-sniffing dogs. Some fire department employees in Denver and Detroit would be laid off.

Also, emergency managers in all 50 states would lose their salary. Johnson warned that “the clock is ticking” and put the blame for any law enforcement system shutdown on Republicans.

As it turns out, the city mayors “fluctuate with the line of the (Democratic) party.” The U.S. Conference of Mayors sent a letter to the Senate calling on Republican leaders to comply with Obama’s plan and Johnson’s demands.

However, the law enforcement officials dared to object. The sheriffs of some states (in Southern states they have influence), in particular, David Clarke, Jr. from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Justin Smith of Larimer County, Colorado, were outraged. On his Facebook page, Smith called the letter from the secretary of homeland security “a veiled threat.”

Smith warned that sheriffs “don’t take kindly to them (threats)” and called on his colleagues “to stand resolute and not cave to these childish, playground bully threats from the administration.” “Let me get this straight – the president believes he has the authority to nullify federal laws that don’t serve his personal agenda, but if Congress dares to exercise its responsibility of controlling the purse strings, he will willingly hold public safety grants hostage just to get his way?” wrote the sheriff on his Facebook page.

Smith added, “Mr. President, you don’t have to love the Congress we elected, but you do have to respect their role as established under the Constitution.” Smith said, “I am concerned that [Obama and Johnson] play politics with domestic security. [Obama] shouldn’t do this. It is almost like playing politics with our military.”*

Question: Can a threat to national security be used as a pressure point for political opponents?

Answer: Whatever it takes, when it comes to an extra five million votes for Democrats. It doesn’t even matter that according to the recent public opinion poll conducted by Reuters and Ipsos, 70 percent of Americans see increased illegal immigration as a threat to economy and American culture.

“This is a fight over millions of voters, not for the security of the nation,” said Yurij Glushenko, leading research scientist, doctoral candidate in economic sciences at the Center for Euro-Atlantic and Defense Studies for the Russian Institute for Strategic Research, to Pravda. “Children of illegal immigrants are already taking part in the economy; they take low-paying jobs, work illegally, they are underpaid. America gains a lot from it.”

“Many see the influx of immigrants as a process destroying the nation’s Anglo-Saxon heritage,” added Glushenko. “The conservative white population does not particularly benefit from it, given that they might become a minority in 20 to 30 years. As for the sheriffs’ protest, it is a means of psychological pressure on the president. The sheriffs are Republicans, who hate black people and believe that the country is safer without them.”

The expert believes there will be a lot of conflicts between Obama and Congress in the next two years. Republicans control the Congress and don’t want to give Obama any chances to deal with domestic policy, which is why they can bring some questions to the point of absurdity.

“Ninety percent of Americans do not vote for the candidate who is active in foreign policy, instead they vote for the candidate who deals with domestic issues. It is the reason Obama’s rating is declining. Naturally, with projects like immigration reform, he’s trying to return at least some of his popularity,” said the expert.

The only thing left for Obama is being a commander in chief and a foreign policy visionary, added the political scientist. “Now, Obama can go down in history only as a president engaged in foreign policy. Without much success.”
