I think the arrest of high-ranking FIFA officials is ultimately directed against Russia. The aim is to beat out of those arrested evidence against Russia, proof that Russia bought the 2018 championship.

Qatar will perhaps figure in the present affair too, but here it doesn’t make any damn difference. This is an operation to discredit your and my homeland. Frankly, it’s not so important for us to prove whether there were any violations. It’s enough to understand that this is a bellicose demarche against Russia’s prestige.
