Ever since American madman Donald Trump announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination, he has been the talk of the town. For one thing, he constantly horrifies Washington’s political elite with brash rhetoric; plus, he steals the glory from other candidates by committing to a position that America is tired of being the world’s police, suffusing American society with the unrest and jumpiness of the Trump phenomenon. However, the Trump phenomenon does not only stem from Trump’s opportunism; it also has the backstage help of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
Just as President Barack Obama has Ben Rhodes, Obama’s public relations strategist and White House deputy national security adviser, Trump has Christie. This New Jersey governor joined Trump’s campaign team early this February to help Trump with his speech content. From election fundraising to being a consultation liaison for Trump and other Republican big shots, Christie plays an inspirational role in these activities. More importantly, every verbal statement or turn of phrase that Trump delivers comes from Christie.
Right now, they need to regroup. In this budding moment, Christie has stated that besides staying in his spot to help Trump, he will also join Trump’s tentative cabinet. He also states that after the election, Trump can take full control of White House affairs, and when Christie’s term as governor ends, he will go into commerce.
Christie jokes, “How did I go from being an idiot 68 days ago to prescient 68 days later?” He even says that he might not make it into Trump’s election to be his assistant, and Trump has never asked him about it, but he will not jump to any conclusions.
Trump praises Christie’s loyalty, wisdom, and ability to propose effective perspectives and methods. That may be, but Christie says that while they may not agree on every issue, Trump is willing to give everything a fair chance.
