Massive protests featuring arson, killing and street fighting have resumed in the United States. The protests are the result of planned actions, and have allegedly been organized according to the methodology used for color revolutions, the kind of mass movement that has emerged in countries ranging from Venezuela to Belarus. The only question in this regard is who is now pulling the strings, since this time it is happening in itself.
The color revolutions that swept through the former Soviet Union’s sphere of influence in the 2000s inflicted serious trauma on the Russian political class and left behind a large body of folklore. Subsequently, this concept expanded and lost its original meaning of being a change of power due to pressure from the street, taking place without casualties.
People began calling any disagreement between the government and mass protests, in any region and with any number of victims, a color revolution or an attempted color revolution. In general, however, protests are the natural manifestation of politics in action, and have been reenacted by mankind for centuries.
In fact, the only common thread between very different events from Venezuela to Kyrgyzstan and from Serbia to Hong Kong, the telltale sign of a color revolution and not some other revolution, was Washington’s support for the rebellious parties. This gave rise to a popular joke among Russian political scientists, which asked why a color revolution could never occur in the United States? The answer: Because there is no American Embassy in the United States.
This spring, this joke finally became irrelevant, because America’s own color revolution began in every sense as something that was supported by a significant part of the political elite.
The Black Lives Matter protests have serious moral, historical and economic foundations. (The newspaper Vzglyad has written about this in detail previously.) But they quickly developed into outright extremism involving looting and violence because ordinary street gangs and radical left-wing activists, antifa, as they are called, gladly joined in.*
By the summer, only a few hotbeds of protest remained from the national fire, but it now seems that there may be a repeat of widespread riots. In fact, they have already resumed but simply on a disproportionately smaller scale. Louisville, Kentucky, has become the new epicenter of the protests, with a population of 700,000. This protest is in response to a grand jury decision charging police officers with negligence and not murder in the death of Breonna Taylor.
Taylor was shot in her own home by accident. During a police search, her boyfriend pulled out a gun, a shootout ensued between him and the police, and the unfortunate woman died after she was hit by a stray bullet.
Taylor’s murder has proved as controversial as that of George Floyd.** But interestingly enough, the riots, including the burning of police stations and the looting of shops, began with a click of a button, with pre-prepared banners, masks and shields organized from trucks.
Here it’s important to understand that in especially liberal cities, protests in the spring were handled by local officials who were Democrats. The police were restricted in their use of force, forbidden to dismantle barricades and people who were opposed to the violence were branded as racists or simply silenced throughout the unrest.
At some point, people suspected that it was all a political conspiracy by the Democrats and the liberal media. However, as they say in Russia, it is a sin to suspect something when you are quite certain.
To be fair, there is some confusion over the fact that while the word “conspiracy” implies a goal, the goals and motives of the Democratic leaders are not obvious. What is happening harms them both politically and personally.
For example, in Portland, Oregon, where people have languidly staging civil disobedience for four months (antifa marked 100 days with a series of arsons), protesters forced Mayor Ted Wheeler to leave his own home and hide in the suburbs. This is the very mayor who protected them, and continues to protect them, from the National Guard, which Trump is ready to send into the city upon request.
This is a rather amusing example, but the terrible truth is that the wealth and prosperity of an American city directly depends on the wealth and prosperity of its taxpayers. The immediate damage done by the rioters to buildings and shops is not yet a crisis. The crisis is that the sites of mass protests are becoming unsuitable for ordinary living, and consequently, the middle and upper class who form the major taxpayer base, will begin their exodus.
Such migrations have left huge holes in the budgets of those Democratically run cities where protests have lingered, the biggest being the budget in New York. A vengeful Trump took advantage of this crisis and said the government would not provide federal funds to city governments that refrain from violent crackdowns and encourage antifa.
So far, there are four cities on the black list: New York, Portland, Seattle, where the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone existed for about a month, and Washington, D.C., inhabited mainly by African Americans and Trump-hating officials.
In all, this hurts not only local governments, whose approval ratings are now collapsing, but also the Democratic Party as whole, which has refused to condemn peaceful anti-racist demonstrations. At first, these demonstrations pulled Trump down (because he is the primary racist and because he made a mess), but now the trend has reversed course.
The incumbent president has almost caught up with Democratic candidate Joe Biden in popularity polls, which are portraying Trump as a friend to the antifa movement whose activity has finally plunged America into chaos.
That is, the Democratic conspiracy is not only destroying American cities, but is also benefiting the actions of their primary enemy, Trump. However, the strange Democratic strategy cannot be explained by any ideological solidarity with antifa. Biden, Hillary Clinton, and even Portland Mayor Ed Wheeler belong to the moderate wing of the party. These Democratic leaders placed spokes in the wheels of the ultra-left — the darlings of the rebellious street riots (for example, Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) — realizing that socialist antics would scare away sponsors from Wall Street.
If we were talking about Ukraine, one could confidently say that its politicians have once again outsmarted themselves, committed mass suicide and pushed their country into the abyss, for this happens there regularly. But we are talking about America, with its world-class collection of political specialists, proven both within their country and far beyond its borders — including in the field of color revolutions.
Assuming that the real goal of the Democratic Party is a violent seizure of power, it is easy to find an explanation for all the behavioral oddities described above. Antifa and other street activists are the “infantry” that will take to the streets after the Nov. 3 election, topple the “racist” Trump, and bring the people behind Biden to power, regardless of the election results.
As we know, during color revolutions, people protest not against election results, but against electoral fraud, real or imaginary. In America, there will be a reason for this, provided by these same Democrats. In many states where they are now in power, they are exercising their authority under the pretense of quarantine and the use of mail-in ballots. Americans have voted by mail before, but only those who have volunteered to do so. Now, ballots will be sent to households by default, whether or not they have been requested.
As a result, the upcoming election will inevitably become one of the most scandalous and dirty elections in U.S. history. Experts predict unprecedented fraud. Unused voting forms could be found in every other ballot box and used at one’s own discretion.
“We want to make sure that the election is honest, and I’m not sure that it can be,” Trump said the day before yesterday. He is categorically against mail-in voting, but the decision in this case is not his. It a decision that the local authorities make.
All this will give the liberals an opportunity not only to play along with Biden, whom the Democratic electorate perceives unenthusiastically, but also to delay the process of counting votes in swing states, where the winner will not be known in advance and the gap between the candidates will amount to thousands of votes (for example, in Pennsylvania and Michigan). During this interim, mobs of antifa activists and others could be transported to the disputed regions, and then we should expect the same kind of result that we have seen in Georgia, Ukraine and other countries.
This is not a conspiracy theory or an attack on conspiracy theories. For example, Hillary Clinton bluntly stated in a recent interview that Biden should not admit defeat to Trump under any circumstances. And the liberal media is already instilling in voters a directive, noting that the current president is so hated by the people (especially people of color) that reelection will inevitably lead to street fighting and guerrilla warfare.
In other words, the Americans are being blackmailed by the possibility of an antifa riot, which can only be prevented by a sweeping Biden victory.
It is unlikely that such rioting will result in a storming of the White House, but it may lead to a political crisis of indescribable proportions, the only way out of which will be either a military massacre or Trump’s resignation. There is no other way the crowds set against him will ever calm down.
The light of this dastardly game is worth the candle, and is already being conducted openly in many ways. Only two circumstances can prevent it. The first is a victory in the swing states with a significant lead not from Biden, but by Trump (which is possible, given that the Democratic candidate, to put it mildly, is a little out of his mind). Alternatively, the situation could take a turn where the final word is delivered by the all-powerful U.S. Supreme Court. (Due to a coincidence of unfortunate circumstances which are fortunate for Trump, the court will be dominated by conservatives.)
We will have to wait and see whether this will lead to a color revolution or just an attempt at one, but it will be one or the other. And in any case, whatever happens will weaken the United States, cause devastating hardship and plunge it into a severe crisis.
We are free to consider that whatever happens will be justice of the highest degree for a country whose game of color revolutions outside its borders once brought crises to other countries.
*Editor’s note: Antifa is shorthand for anti-fascists, an umbrella description for the far-left-leaning militant groups that resist neo-Nazis and white supremacists at demonstrations and other events.
**Editor’s note: Police officers involved in the killings of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd have been charged in connection with the incidents, but have not yet been convicted of murder or any other crimes.
