A Monument in Tikrit for Muntathar Al-Zaidi
The monument is two meters high. It consists of a huge bronze shoe mounted on a base, surrounded by plastic bushes. We find on the base:
"Patience Muntathar, until the sword be filled with blood. Silence until I have the well to say the justness."
Al-Zaidi has been detained in Baghdad since the incident. He is facing the charge of assaulting a President during an official visit to Iraq.
Fatin Abdulqader, director of an orphanage and child care organization in Tikrit, said that the monument which was in her yard was made by Iraqi artist Laith Al-Ameri. She also said the monument weighs 1.5 tons, and it represents gratitude to Al-Zaidi, who gave some relief to Iraqi people with his act.
