According to a very important Wall Street Journal article, America will deprive Pakistan of some financial aid. The article informed readers that the U.S. has four demands for Pakistan. An American official stated, “You make progress in these areas, and we can release some of this assistance… give us something that we can show [Congress] that we’re working together.”

James Clapper, director of National Intelligence, will be monitoring Pakistan and checking to see if it cooperates in these four areas in the future. After a careful assessment of Pakistan’s progress in these areas, the U.S. will determine how much aid it is going to grant.

According to the article, President Obama informed the Pakistani government of these four demands soon after the Abbottabad incident. According to one ISI member, America has not given Pakistan any such list. The same official also said that Pakistan will not blindly carry out all of America’s commands and that it will deal with Afghanistan on its own, and not America’s, terms.

There is no doubt that the Pakistani army did not like America conducting an attack in Abbottabad without informing them first. In fact, for the first time, the U.S. faced great opposition from the Pakistani army and the ISI. The main reason for this is America’s own strange attitude. On one hand, it acknowledges that it cannot win the war in this region without Pakistan’s help and wants us to help them. On the other hand, it does not consult us when it brazenly carries out its own missions within our borders, or when it interferes with our sovereign affairs.

Upon reading the Wall Street Journal article, Hussain Haqqani, Pakistan’s ambassador to the U.S., stated that relations between America and Pakistan are not quid-pro-quo and that Pakistan is not merely fighting in this region to gain financial aid from America. In response to this statement, an American leader said that, from now on, Pakistan will get financial aid after a careful analysis of its conduct toward America.

America is no longer treating us like a friend. It is treating us like an agent, an agent who is supposed to act in ways that solely benefit America. I am surprised at the Americans’ lack of common sense. On the one hand, they pressure us to fight the Haqqani network and Taliban while treating us like children. On the other hand, they claim to be our “friends.”

This policy of theirs is dangerous and problematic. They are preparing to leave this region and want us to resolve all the problems here; they want to blame us for everything that happens here. Getting involved in Afghanistan has had a very negative impact on our society, many of those affected have been our innocent civilians. We can no longer afford to make mistakes. If we do, we will drown. Our army and our public have already seen the results of blindly obeying America’s commands. Now it is time for our politicians to wake up. They must set aside their own personal interests and work towards making progress in this nation.
