Putin Speaks Against Police Brutality
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin expressed his opinion that police were too harsh in dispersing Occupy Wall Street protests in the United States. He noted that human rights must be observed everywhere, RIA Novosti reports.
Putin made this announcement during a press conference following a meeting of the Russian-French intergovernmental commission. According to him, the observation of human rights must be maintained in Syria, France, Europe, the U.S. and Russia.
Speaking about Russia, he noted that "We, too, have similar problems arising; we also must make a determined effort to avoid disruptions here."
He expressed his negative assessment of the actions of American police in dispersing the activists during the protest, which is directed against the banking industry and economic policy of American authorities.
In Putin's opinion, "There won't be any disproportionate use of force or repression by law enforcement bodies here."
It should be noted that the Russian opposition is similarly critical of the harsh crackdown on Strategy-31, a protest for the freedom of assembly. They are unhappy with the suppression of protests at Triumph Square, directed against fraudulent elections. For example, during one of them, the 6-year-old son of activist Sergei Aksenov of the Left Front was arrested. The boy was taken to the Department of Internal Affairs and subjected to interrogation.
Recall that Occupy Wall Street’s protest movement "Global Day of Action" began on Nov. 17. According to American police, 245 protestors were arrested that day.
