The Struggle Continues

Recent measures taken by Donald Trump's administration that negatively impact Venezuelans go beyond eliminating Temporary Protected Status. They go beyond the indiscriminate deportation of migrants who are summarily expelled without prior evaluation and recklessly stigmatized — as if they all belonged to the Tren de Aragua gang.

These measures include the elimination of all funding granted through the U.S. Agency for International Development to civil organizations that struggle to improve the already precarious living conditions of most of the Venezuelan population. These decisions also affect media outlets that continue to defend freedom of expression and promote the recovery of democracy in our country despite the challenges of doing so.

We hope that good sense prevails in the United States and that people understand that these measures contribute nothing to the goal of “making America great again.” On the contrary, they succeed only in projecting a negative image and the creating a breeding ground for other powers who see an opportunity to expand their influence in the region.
