Is she following in the steps of Oprah Winfrey? We’re not sure. The American press has given Chelsea Clinton a remarkable welcome following her full time start as a correspondent on NBC News. Daughter of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama’s current Secretary of State’s, Chelsea Clinton enjoys a rather serious and professional image, having always succeeded in leading her life as a “First Daughter” without much trouble. A good academic background, a lack of scandal, a traditional marriage, and calculated immersion in her parents’ political careers really make you think about how television could be a good step for a career in politics for her. We’ll see.
The celebrity behind Chelsea Clinton is a strong publicity stunt for NBC. The contract that the network has come to sign with her will propel the show where she will be featured on to the height of ratings for at least in the very beginning.
She will be joining the program “Making a Difference,” a series that retells the stories of Americans who have lived through trials and tribulations or who have achieved feats to make America proud. The show is an ode to positivity in America and to individual successes. Her work could also be featured on “Rock Center with Brian Williams,” which explores the lives of volunteers who serve the community. It is a show that makes use of celebrities to animate some not-so-sexy topics.
This is exactly what attracted Chelsea Clinton. Ms. Clinton has said to the network’s heads that these individual human stories are what motivated and moved her during her mother’s 2008 presidential campaign. She has no desire to be the star of the show, rather she wishes to bring out the heart of America.
Her position at NBC is a full-time job, but Chelsea will continue her studies and her administrative duties at the William Clinton Foundation and at Barry Diller’s Interactive Corporation.
Overall, it is a great window on American life, especially at the dawn of the 2012 presidential campaign, and on the media outlets that could nourish the experience of a future political woman – the next Clinton is just on the rise.
