Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton finally confirmed in recent days that which Donald Trump has spoken of openly for months and what Americans have been thinking for years. The official allies of the U.S. – Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar – support and finance various terrorist and extremist organizations.
Clinton said it in an emotional reaction to the terrorist attack in Orlando’s Pulse night club, where Omar Mateen, an American Islamic extremist of Afghan origin, murdered 49 people.
“It is long past time for the Saudis, the Qataris and the Kuwaitis and others to stop their citizens from funding extremist organizations,” Clinton said in a statement on the global threat of terrorism. Kuwaiti and Saudi Arabian diplomacy are indignant over the comment and immediately protested, even claiming that their own countries are victims of terrorism.
Although there has long been discussion of these Arab lands’ abundant support of extremists and terrorists, Washington has always considered these countries its allies, because they counterbalance the influence of Iran and other authoritarian regimes in the Middle East.
At the same time, Saudi Arabia is the largest “exporter” of radical forms of Sunni Islam – the state ideology is called Wahhabism – and not only does it finance extremist organizations, it also builds mosques, Islamic centers (sometimes masked as libraries or language schools) and hospitals, and it sets up bizarre charities. It has expended tens of billions of dollars on the Islamization of part of Africa alone. It’s also active in the U.S. and Europe, including the Czech Republic.
Qatar is also a well-known disseminator of propagandistic Islamic extremist opinions, using various methods to disseminate these opinions such as Al-Jazeera TV. Qatar has supported and continues to support armed militias in Libya and Syria.
All three Arabic countries assert that Clinton’s words “do not comply with reality” and that she was speaking solely within the framework of an election campaign.
After the massacre in Orlando, presumptive Republican candidate Donald Trump called on Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton to name the cause of terrorism unambiguously. In his view, it’s radical Islamism. Clinton and Obama refuse to directly connect the Muslim religion with terrorism.
