Age? It’s a problem for Joe Biden, but not for Donald Trump, even if he is in no way inferior to the U.S. president when it comes to embarrassing errors. The world must prepare for Trump’s return.
Two old, white men want to become president of the United States of America. One of these two men confused Mexico with Egypt, while the other praised Viktor Orbán for his leadership in Turkey. It seems the memory, knowledge or attention span of both men is not very good.
If it wasn’t deadly serious about who is elected on Nov. 5, we could be amused by the mistakes of Joe Biden and Donald Trump. They are both old and older people can be forgiven for any negligence. But, with them both pursuing the most important state office in the western world, the laughter gets stuck in our throats.
The U.S. election campaign, which is already a terrifying drama, has experienced a turning point. The Republican Party, which is as devoted to Trump as the Death Eaters are to Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter novels, abandoned a very important compromise, meaning that the $60 billion in military aid that Ukraine’s very existence depends upon remains blocked.
Trump gave one of his inimitable commentaries on this: Even back when he was president, he told a NATO member state that because they owed the alliance money, “No, I would not protect you. In fact, I would encourage them (Russia) to do whatever the hell they want. You got to pay. You got to pay your bills.” What does he mean to say? That it’s supposedly the European’s own fault that Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine, and what’s more, the Russian president could only do so because Trump encouraged him?
What Harms Biden Is Good for Trump
What’s happening in America at the moment is the ultimate tragedy. In order to continue supporting Ukraine, the Democratic Party would have to agree to even tougher measures on the Mexico border. There is state of emergency on the Rio Grande for multiple reasons. In 2023, there were about 2.5 million people at the southern border without the necessary papers. They mostly came from South America, but people from China, Russia and Africa were also trying to get into America.
Border security on the 3,200 kilometers (approximately 1,988 miles) between the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean is actually the responsibility of the government in Washington. But the Texas governor, who is a Trump groupie, has nevertheless deployed the National Guard and regional police units there. That is illegal, but that doesn’t matter in Trump’s world. Trumpists claim that rapists, lunatics, terrorists and murderers all come from Mexico — and Biden wants to open the borders to all immigrants after his reelection. None of this is true, but that doesn’t matter either. The Trumpists’ logic is as follows: Who cares about Ukraine, we have to protect our own borders. What hurts Biden is good for Trump, and so, also good for America. Fuck you, Biden!
We Will Get To Experience Trump in His Purest Form
For a long time the U.S. has been a difficult, unpredictable and divided country. Perhaps the lies of the Bush administration which led to the invasion of Iraq back in 2003 is where the unleashing and disinhibition began. White America probably couldn’t tolerate Barack Obama becoming president. But, as for why the proud Republican Party has gone along with Trump to the point where he can make them dance like puppets remains a mystery.
The U.S. has fallen prey to its own paranoia from time to time throughout its history. But it picked itself up again after Joseph McCarthy’s communist persecution paranoia in the 1950s or Richard Nixon’s criminal activity or even after the Vietnam War. But now Trump’s second term in office is a real possibility — despite the storming of the Capitol, despite the pending lawsuits and despite the experiences with him in the White House.
The U.S. appears to be ready to give him free rein because this time Trump won’t allow himself to be walled in by pragmatists and realists. If he is elected, we will experience Trump in his purest form.
Trump’s Four Commandments
Trump’s commandments can be summarized as follows:
First: Democracy is for wimps. Democracy means compromise and Trump is an extremist whose word is law and that’s final.
Second: Trump comes with an audience ready to cheer. He keeps them in the mood like an entertainer, being his own cheerleader.
Third: Forget about the outside world, these European/EU/NATO riffraff. It’s us that matters, America, that is the message.
Fourth: Lies are like truth, lies can become truth if Trump speaks them. Then they are replaced with other lies, which in turn become truth.
Age Is a Problem for Biden, but Not for Trump
The actual truth is that America is experiencing its largest period of growth. This is ensured by the Biden administration’s laws, such as the Inflation Reduction Act, providing $433 billion of investment into the U.S. domestic market. In terms of foreign policy, the superpower is acting in a sensible and traditional manner in Ukraine and Israel. It appears determined both militarily and politically. These actions on the world stage are closely connected to Biden. There is no question that, without him, the world would look different.
But none of this has a positive effect on the U.S. president with the American people, as his popularity rating is abysmal. The fact that an investigative report characterizes him as a kindly old gentleman with poor memory only reinforces the prejudices against him. It’s also true that soon Biden will be 82, not an age for a president.
Trump will be 78 in June, which is also not an age for a president. By the way, Ronald Reagan was 77 when he left office. But Trump is still a big mouth, a liar and an entertainer whose age is a minor issue, at least for his followers (women only appear to them as sex objects).
The U.S. is hyped up, watching two men with poor memory battle to be elected, while the rest of the world, including us, waits apathetically to find out just who this strange country will elect to the White House.
