Barack Obama May Meet Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
General James Jones, the U.S. president’s national security adviser, announced that Barack Obama is ready to meet with the head of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, if he makes concessions in terms of the nuclear program.
The main condition, in Jones’ opinion, will be granting access to nuclear facilities in this Muslim country for the IAEA representatives.
Overall, the adviser does not believe in the probability of such a turn of events because Iran has repeatedly stalled the efforts of the six states to control Iran’s nuclear program. Ahmadinejad himself expressed his readiness for the meeting: "We are ready to sit down with Mr. Obama face-to-face and put the global issues on the table, man-to-man.” But Jones is confident that Obama will not agree with “theatricality” for an artificial demonstration; that with respect to the relations between the U.S. and Iran, everything is quiet.
Another important issue in the stabilization of relations between the two countries would be the liberation of the three American travelers that have been held in Iran for a year. The young people were arrested for illegally crossing the border. They had visas to Syria and Iraq, and claimed that they crossed the border accidentally. Iranian authorities have a different opinion on this issue.
