The former president joined the voices calling for Biden’s withdrawal from the candidacy; it is rumored that he is already preparing his resignation.

President Joe Biden's candidacy was teetering on the brink of collapse, faced with the growing perception that it would be impossible for him to win the November elections and an increasingly general and public rebellion in the Democratic Party.

According to several sources, Biden had resigned himself to the idea and the announcement would occur on Sunday. According to the reports, considered credible, the drafting of the speech has already begun.

Biden's main allies, from former President Barack Obama to former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, have already called on him to 'reconsider' his candidacy; several legislators have openly asked him to drop out of the campaign and a growing number of donors have stopped contributing.

Obama is the most prominent Democrat to join a growing number of voices calling for Biden to throw in the towel. Pelosi, who has the confidence of the president, has reportedly told Biden that his staying in the race could be an electoral disaster for the Democrats.

The greatest fear is that a defeat, which analysts now consider could be massive, could drag the party down and leave it in the minority in both houses of Congress.

CNN assured that the influential Pelosi has said the polls indicate that not only will he not win but that he may lose seats to the Democrats in the legislative elections being held at the same time.

According to The Washington Post, Obama has privately signaled that Biden's path to an electoral victory has narrowed considerably, although in public he cautions that it is a decision for Biden alone. But the political circumstances around Biden appear to be getting worse and worse.

According to U.S. media reports, Democratic congressional leaders Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries have told the president in separate meetings that his candidacy threatens the party's chances at the polls.

His poor performance in the June 27 debate and problems in public appearances since then, up to and including the current COVID-19-enforced isolation at his Delaware home, have not help him.

Until Wednesday, however, Biden had expressed not just reluctance, but rejection of the idea. Now, it is said, he might leave the position open to a person to be determined, although the most commonly cited is Vice President Kamala Harris. “…there is now a palpable sense that the ground has shifted underneath him,” one report indicated. Amid high tensions, Biden got confused again a few days ago, forgetting in an interview the name of his defense secretary, whom he called “the black guy,” Axio reported.

Several senior Democrats told the Axios platform under anonymity that they believe the mounting pressure will cause Biden to give up his candidacy. They do not rule out that he will do so this weekend.

According to the AP-NORC Public Affairs Research Center poll, 65% of Democrats and 70% of Americans want President Biden to step aside.

According to The Economist YouGov poll, 79% of Democrats would support Kamala Harris as the party's nominee, increasing the possibility that she could beat Republican opponent Trump.
