Regardless of what the U.S. government says, American journalists and media personalities are now openly stating that NATO and the United States have failed to achieve their goals in Afghanistan. However, they sometimes say that “the mission has not completely failed.” This year has seen even more attacks on U.S. soldiers than the previous year, and the recent attack on a U.S. helicopter made the American public very sad. The American media is openly stating that, even if there has been no increase in attacks on U.S. soldiers, there has been no discernible decrease in such attacks either.
The time has come for Pakistan to bring in a more effective government. America is trying to withdraw from Afghanistan and leave their mess here. This mess is the result of their own misguided policies. The U.S. fought unnecessary wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. At first, U.S. President Obama had the chance to get the U.S. out of these wars. Instead, he chose to further Bush’s failed policies. It is clear now that the U.S. has lost its position as the world’s superpower because Obama chose to implement Bush’s policies. Obama has failed to bring positive changes to America. There is no doubt that the U.S. is a very large country, but when a large building collapses, the resulting destruction is also on a larger scale.
America’s policies have had an adverse impact on South Asia and, as a result, China has gotten a boost. It will continue to make progress, and the U.S. will soon no longer be able to say that it is the world’s sole superpower. The Soviet Union collapsed after its involvement in Afghanistan. America, too, will collapse because of its involvement in Afghanistan. I have stated this in a previous column as well.
If a poor country such as Afghanistan brings about the downfall of the United States and NATO, this will be no minor fact. Rather, it will have wide-reaching implications. The news of the U.S.’s failure will spread across the world, and the Americans and Europeans will no longer feel safe. This is why the Americans have kept repeating over the past 10 years that they need to win this war. When Robert Gates was the U.S. Secretary of Defense, he took a tour of the NATO countries and urged them to fight and win in Afghanistan; he felt that a defeat in Afghanistan would be similar to a defeat of the entire world.
The U.S. and NATO are not saying this, but they know their war is impossible to win, just as the Vietnam War was impossible to win. When the U.S. and its allies fail, China will come out on top. If the Russians had not entered Afghanistan, they would still be ruling the world today. The Soviet Union was destroyed in Afghanistan. That loss continues to affect their emotions and psychology. America is facing the same dangers that the Soviet Union then faced.
The U.S. should reflect on the fact that its global hegemony will soon end, and that its empire is now on the verge of collapse. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have cost too much. Now they realize that it is best for them to withdraw from Afghanistan. It is true that the U.S. is the world’s largest military power. But what benefits have they derived from this fact? There had been an 81 percent increase in the deaths of the American soldiers from 2001 to 2010. This has had a distressing affect on American society.
At first, many were enthralled by Obama. People had many hopes for him and were excited to see the changes he had to offer. But, gradually, the Pentagon began exerting great influence over him and he started running a government on the CIA’s orders. Soon his credibility began to be questioned. This first happened when he listened to the Pentagon and decided to send an additional 37,000 U.S. troops to Afghanistan, an action which was in direct contradiction with his past advocacy of troop reduction.
The year 2012 will bring many challenges for the Democrats. Failed wars, poor policies and a weak economy could deprive the Democrats of their power. The American public is becomingly increasingly frustrated with Obama. On Aug. 15, a federal court declared Obama’s health care law unconstitutional. This was a big slap in the face for the White House. The situation in America today is similar to what they were going through before they decided to bring back their troops from Vietnam. The American public is getting more scared and frustrated every day.
While I don’t much like the idea of empire any more than any other decent and sane person, I don’t see what could possibly happen in a place like Afghanistan, which for all intents and purposes is the absolute end of the world, that could bring down America.
I think the author of the above article is writing a fantasy piece designed to make himself feel good.
The current leading empire in the world isn’t America – it’s a small group of rich people from a host of nations. The rich have globalized – it’s them against everyone else, and this tiny group of men control 85 percent of the world’s wealth. They call the shots and they rule the world. Americans are simply the deluded fools who do the work, just like your average citizen in Pakistan.
