Resistance against Trump Bears 1st Fruit – We Must Celebrate Even Interim Victories

Many are concerned that a defenseless U.S. democracy has been surrendered to Donald Trump and Elon Musk. A judge’s ruling should now provide reassurance.

Before the U.S. election, Republican Party moderates, by today’s standards, such as former George W. Bush advisor Karl Rove, reassured everyone who warned about Donald Trump’s frontal assault on democracy. The “guardrails” of the state would keep Trump in check, they said. Well, those comforting words have lost their effect when you look at the insanity that has gripped Washington since then.

But news of a judge’s ruling against Trump’s dismantling of federal agencies offers hope that there is something in those guardrails. “Finally, a good development,“ “This is a significant win that could lead to larger victories in the future,” write those affected in one of the large chat groups of federal employees organizing the resistance against

Trump and Elon Musk.

Given the levels of both lethargy and shock in the pro-democracy camp since the U.S. election, we should note moments like this. It is the only way to create the necessary self-confidence and belief that the U.S. will remain robust.

Recent images of former federal employees demonstrating in the U.S. capital no longer symbolize frustration and helplessness, but defiance.
